A day in Kosice

09-10.01.2014

The holidays were going by and we decided to feel the spirit of travelling again, so we chose the nearest city to Uzhgorod, which was actually the 2nd biggest in Slovakia.
I heard about Kosice a lot because many our students from Slovakian department usually went there for their internships or for exchange.
We packed our little bags, bought return tickets for 20 Euros for the direct bus Uzhgorod-Kosice, reserved the hostel "Above club Madrid" and started being excited about the things that are going to happen to us.

So, we set off at 7 am and at 10am we already reached our destination place. We didn't quite know where to go, but it turned out to be no problem at all since we were heading towards the park ahead of us and soon found a cute bridge which took us directly to the city centre.

One of the most interesting buildings of the city, its landmark, is Jacab's Palace, which we had opportunity to see only from the outside.
Kosice city centerThe city centre is quite small, but very cozy. Kosice is one of the places that you can't really get lost in. We found our hostel, which was in one of the central streets, but extremely quiet. We were pleasantly welcome there and were to choose the beds we liked. The price was reasonable and the conditions were quite ok as well.  We went exploring the city and it turned out that the whole historical part was centered around the St. Elizabeth Cathedral. It was quite big and impressive and by going back and forth the main streets we had opportunity to examine it from all sides and angles. I also tried the best pizza I have ever tried so far and it was in the pizzeria Napolitana. That is surely the place I would always visit again and again. Though Slovakia has a Euro as its currency, everything is more than just cheap there.  We also visited their malls that were situated near each other. We went to AUPARK mall to explore the collections, sales and goods. Of course after Budapest's Arena it didn't impress us that much, but , anyway, it's quite good
In the evening we met our friends from AIESEC and went to the Nebra Cafe. The atmosphere was very pleasant and we had very nice time, trying some ''finnish" shots.
In general the city was ideal for relaxing from the rush, and very little.
